What routes do YOU want for Saturdays?

What routes have we not done lately that you want us to do again?

Do you have a new route you'ld like us to consider?

Let me know!  Otherwise, I'll assume I'm selecting exactly what you want to help you have fun and stay fit.

Post it here, or email me.

    Mike,

Routes are great. Nice balance between hills/flats and covering different areas of the West Side with occasional forays into the West Hills and Metro. Might be fun on "Bruces Ride" to have the optional loop be down Logie to Highway 30 and then back up!

    Hi Mike

Do we have routes which go east or south east? Personally, I bypass the Saturday ride quite often solely because a lot of the routes are really very similar. Plus they are the roads I ride Sun - Fri anyways. Another option that would peak my interest is various departure points and destinations: Edgefield, Estacada, Sandy, Clackamas, Springwater, Oregon City, Columbia River Gorge. Rose Garden Ramble is, to the best of my knowledge, the only Sat. Sig. route that even remotely flirts with the fact that there are many other scenic, challenging and bike friendly routes a stones throw from Washington County.

Just curious and taking the opportunity to throw this out there. Obviously I am naive to what the liability and logistical constraints may be. Other than that, I think Hillsboro Portland Velo is great!

    :)

Well said, Chris (and HB by the way).  There was talk, at one time, about having Saturday rides on the East side - maybe that was just for the PV team, but I think it is a good idea.

There were attempts last year to ride 1 Saturday a month from the east side, or "some other location" on a Saturday.  Unfortunately, these rides didn't continue as their participation levels tended to be pretty low.  Tuesday and Thursday there are rides that leave out of NE, Monday and Sunday, rides leave out of the SW.

I've noticed, lately, our routes are avoiding Bald Peak Rd to North Valley Rd, Iowa Hill, Gaston, etc. Not sure if it's because of mileage (the routes are longer), but those are definitely my favorite rides.

In response to east side ride discussion, I'd say post something to the impromptu rides area, and see what kind of response you get.

I agree, Shane, regarding the Chehalem Mt area.

Also a route out to Timber would be nice.

We aren't avoiding those areas, but we do heavily consider weather and traffic.  Also, this time of year we get more new riders, so the longer or climbing rides are not well tolerated yet.

After we move to 9am starts, we'll do more of those rides.  I promise!  If you have a route suggestion, please email me and I'll map it.

I also like going out to Timer, but there are 2 problems: Hwy 6, and Hwy 26.  Those are the only 2 ways I know to get there, and they are heavily travelled.

But I will be having some rides South and to Timber in the next few months.

To get to Timber, Oregon Randonneurs uses the following routing: Gales Creek Rd to Hwy 6 Hwy 6 to Timber Rd (about 3 miles. annoying rumble strip, not bad otherwise) Timber Rd to Timber. don't cross Hwy 26 unless continuing on to Vernonia

It would be difficult to get there from Longbottoms, but I've had fun on a couple of rides down south from Stafford all the way to Canby (ferry is always fun)
