    As the Raven Flies #1....

OK....Map My Ride can kiss my butt !!!

I looked at the profile of this TT and thought...not a big deal, a few short rollers, nothing over 2% grade, biggest climb around 75 feet....should be a great fast TT. Ummmmmmm, NO!

You start the race on a nice straight stretch, turn the corner and then you see a nice 200 foot or so climb that probably averages around 7%-8%. After that it went downhill for a while with a small flat section for about 3/4 of a mile then all rollers from there to the turn around point.

Basically....it hurt a bit more than I thought it was going to.

With that said, it was a very nice course....aside from one corner they didn't have a flagger on which caused several racers to miss the corner and back track, losing probably 20-30 seconds. I was lucky enough to see somebody hitting the brakes hard to make the turn and another coming back to the course from the missed turn.

The course was a little longer than the 11.58 miles they posted...probably closer to 11.75 so not much different, but made for a nice TT that's a fair amount different than other TT's around. Lots of punchy climbs, some tight turns....basically not just a power course....Mitch if you are reading this, you would "TEAR THIS COURSE UP!!!".

I'm looking forward to next week....Hope the weather is dry again.

My time on the day...Should be right around 28:53 which I'm more than happy with considering I wasn't expecting it to be nearly has hard as it was. Not sure how I placed, but I think I did well in the 40+ group.

Great job RonRon.  Profiles can be very misleading, hence while we'll take a trip down to Amity in the upcoming weeks to check out the new PoC route. ;)

Melanie and I drove the PoC after the Raven TT today - pretty narrow roads, mostly without a paved shoulder.  Several railroad track crossings (one kinda sketchy), one really sketchy right hand turn, some gentle rollers with maybe two longer sustained climbs.  Pretty small parking area, too, so it might pay to arrive early... it would be a good idea to pre-ride this one.  Nice scenary and almost no traffic today.

    Cheers, Malcolm

Results are up: 2nd in the mens 40+ but much closer to those that beat me at Jack Frost on a harder course and 8th fastest time on the day. However the overall is a bit misleading since a few of the faster riders missed a turn and lost 20-30 seconds, but still a good showing considering my legs were sore yesterday.

For those that raced today some pics can be found here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/mathowie/sets/72157623443534001/detail/

Looks like all of the PV racers are represented in the photos :)

I will second Ron's description of the course. This is a great time trial if you really want to suffer. It was really tough to get into a rhythm on this course. It is hard enough to find a good rhythm in early season time trials, but this course had me all over the place. I was out of the saddle several times. I'm glad I wasn't the only one that went off course. I really felt stupid when I realized that I went off the course. Cervelo P3s and dirt and gravel don't mix! I think Mitch would eat this course up. It appears that someone other than Seth Hosmer can beat Rob English. Very impressive race by William O'Donnell. Ron, you won't see me out there next week. I think I'll be doing some 2x20s on a flat surface instead. Nice to see some more TTs on the schedule though. Great job Ron!
