    Race Reports!

Okay guys and gals. We had a number of folks race this weekend.  Lets hear it!  I heard rumors of the first PV win of 2010 yesterday and I've yet to see anything regarding it! :)

Huge Congrates to Mr.Otto, very impressive win on a really tough course.

I felt punky the first two laps and thought it was going to be a rough day, field seemed tough.  Last big hill, two man break up the road that I thought I would catch, only they had to much leash. Got a gap on the field with a Hammer Kid glued to my wheel.  So for the last 4miles I buried myself to keep the gap as the kid would not come around. Then he punked me on the finish hill like I was standing still.

    Re: Race Reports!

Congrats to Jeff O and Mitch!

My race was almost a no-go as I rolled in and got registered with just enough time to put my helmet on and roll to the starting line.  I was the 91st racer registered in a 75 man field...go figure.  I'm just glad they let me in, as it was an awesome course.   Very much a race of attrition as halfway into the second lap going over the bigger hill the pack was down to around 40.  I worked without a teammate to try to get up in the pack with some success.  Kind of got stuck mid-pack through the last KM, but picked off about 10   guys going up the final hill for 9th place. I felt like I had more to give and should have started working sooner to get in better position for the finish...oh well, lesson learned.

Overall, very cool race.  Nice to test the legs on some hillier terrain.

Yes, big congrats to Jeff and Mitch! Mitch got a fair number of upgrade points on this one, he'll be a Cat2 before this season's out for sure.

Myself... I came, saw, got dropped on the last climb out of the gully on the last lap. I did get off the front with a couple others for a little while and got to test my legs on the hills. Not as good as I wanted but better than expected.

Brian, I wouldn't be too sure on many upgrade points, the race was shorter than 50 miles so it will probably by scored as a circuit/crit with little to no points.

    Nice work Micheal A.!!

Mitch, hopefully its not considered a circuit race cause its the hardest race of the year! Great job :)

Great work to Jeff Otto and Michael Aylward as well! Jeff, awesome photo of you on Oregon Cycling Action.  Would love to hear how that final charge to the line played out!

    Re: Race Reports!

At the start the pace was a bit frisky, but soon settled down to a slower pace. This was ok for me as I was still tired from a MTB ride at Rogers Camp two days earlier. Several times during the race someone or a small group would try and get away, but were always brought back. Lucky, the hills helped and caused some attrition, (would have liked to see some climbs) decreasing the size of the group each lap. The last time up the first hill the pace was such to bring the lead group down to ~ 9 riders (I didn't stop to count). Leading up to the finishing hill I surveyed the group and selected the riders I thought might contend for the sprint. Staying close to them and making sure I was in the right gear I made my jump. At the bottom of the climb I was spun out, but by the time I got to the finish I was mashing.

Great work Jeff.  Congrats again for brining home the first win of the season for PV.  If you are attending the club winter party this Saturday, find me and I'll get you a special prize. :)

Kenji confirmed that it counts as a regular road race, so thats nice for the upgrade points :)
